Yassin Abu Odeh and his family have been displaced from Gaza to Egypt and urgently need help rebuilding their lives.

In October 2023, Yassin, his wife, and their youngest child, Maria, were in Cairo for a conference when violence erupted in Gaza. Their four older children were left behind in the besieged city. Their home was destroyed, and the children, accompanied by their grandmother, fled south, moving from one makeshift shelter to another. During the harrowing ordeal, Yassin’s nine-year-old son, Kenan, was injured by aircraft fire. His fifteen-year-old daughter, Maram, and eleven-year-old son, Mohammed, both contracted hepatitis.

In a desperate attempt to save his family, Yassin managed to arrange their transfer to Egypt for medical treatment after six long months. Like many of the more than 100,000 Gazans who have fled to Egypt, Yassin lacks legal status in the country and has no means of supporting himself. Without proper documentation, he cannot work or even open a bank account.

Your assistance would mean the world to this family. Your donations will support the Odeh family in the following ways:

Yassin once had a stable job working for NGOs as a social worker. He lost everything in the war on Gaza, including his newly built apartment and his money held in a Gazan bank. Now, he finds himself in a precarious situation. Although he has secured a flat for his family on the outskirts of Cairo, he lacks the means to cover ongoing accommodation costs, food, and clothing for his children. Access to medical care is limited, and with few job prospects, he cannot afford to send his children to school in Egypt.

There are no centralized relief efforts for Palestinians displaced in Egypt, and they cannot rely on UN agency support. Instead, Palestinians depend on grassroots charities and community support to meet their daily needs.

Please help them. No contribution is too small; every dollar will make a significant difference for this family who has lost everything.
